隨著3G影音智慧型行動電話的普及，除了傳統撥接通話模式外，還有「視訊通話模式」可讓對方看到你的身影或表情，甚至周遭景致立即傳輸，以及多方通話，但前提是通話雙方皆須使用3G門號手機，且須具備支援3G視訊模組通話功能，雙方就得以進行3G視訊通話啦！

此外，智慧型手機還可下載APP、LINE、SKYpe等軟體，都支援視訊通話功能，且可多方通話，不少白領或跨國企業，目前已很流行多方視訊通話功能進行遠端會議。

這項視訊通話功能也可運用在災區、戰區第一線採訪，即時放送現場影像，若妥善運用，未來人人都可以是「公民記者」。
